WHAT TO EXPECT AT A QUINN PILATES CLASS

"Each class will last 45 minutes and consist of a range of mobility, strength, and core work. Quinn Pilates classes are suitable for all abilities, as I provide different levels for each exercise. All classes will challenge you, as even the simplest of moves can be demanding when done with thought and control. In addition to toning and improving strength, flexibility, coordination, and posture, you're guaranteed to feel less stressed and have an uplifting sense of well-being at the end of every class."

HOW TO GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR PILATES WORKOUT

  • Always get your start/setup position correct.

  • Get the basics right first, don’t rush onto the next level. You will get more out of doing a lower level correctly then a harder level incorrectly.

  • Slow down, don’t rush through the moves. Pilates is slow and controlled, faster doesn’t mean better, sometimes the slower you go the harder it can be.

  • Focus on what you are doing and what you are aiming to get from each exercise, whether it’s not allowing the rib cage to lift or engaging that core.

  • If you're not sure if something is right, just ask.

Now that we've covered the basics - come and give Pilates a try... Enjoy!

How often should I do it?

"Ideally, twice a week, but if possible, more. We spend a lot of our day and night being sedentary, so to counteract that, we need to stretch and strengthen the body."

CLOTHING & EQUIPMENT

"There are a few things to consider when dressing for a Pilates class. Your clothes should be comfortable and allow you to move and stretch fully. Layers are always good, as though it's not a class where you will be sweating, you can get quite warm.

I need to see your body well enough to observe the alignment of your bones and how your muscles are engaging, so while loose clothing is okay, overly baggy attire is not advisable. Avoiding baggy clothes is important because some Pilates exercises could be a bit revealing if your clothes are too loose.

Pilates is usually done barefoot, so no fancy footwear is needed, although many clients do like to wear non-slip socks.

Whether you are at home or at a venue, you will need your own mat.

For Zoom classes, we do use equipment. You can find more information about what we use on the About page."
